Cullinan

  • 74% interest; BEE partners hold 26% through Thembinkosi Mining Investments (14%) and a Petra employee share trust (12%); purchase completed July 2008
  • Second largest diamond resource in the world by in-situ value at 204.6 million carats (includes tailings)
  • Source of spectacular diamonds, including the Cullinan, the world’s largest ever found at 3,106 carats, a quarter of all the world’s diamonds over 400 carats in size, and highly prized blue diamonds
  • Development plan in place to lift production from 1 million carats per annum to 2.6 million carats per annum by 2019
  • Sale of a 39.19 carat blue diamond in October 2008 for US$8.8 million
  • Sale of a 7.03 carat, internally flawless, fancy vivid blue diamond (cut from a 26.58 carat rough) in May 2009 for US$9.4m, achieving US$1.34m per carat
  • Sale of 507 carat Cullinan Heritage diamond for US$35.3m in February 2010, the highest price on record for a rough diamond

Koffiefontein

  • 70% interest held; BEE partners Re-Teng Diamonds holds 30%
  • Purchase completed in July 2007
  • Positive economic turnaround achieved in Petra’s hands
  • Now one of the world’s top kimberlite mines by average value per carat with US$402 achieved for FY 2010
  • FY 10: annual production of 60,260 carats; expected to grow significantly to 100,000 carats by 2017


Kimberley Underground

  • Acquisition agreed September 2007 and completed May 2010
  • Stockpile of 500,000 tonnes (~90,000 carats) built up during care & maintenance period – recoveries have now commenced
  • Initial production of 100,000 carats in FY 2011, rising to 180,000 carats pa following commissioning of Wesselton plant by June 2011

Fissure Mines

  • Comprises the Helam, Sedibeng and Star mines
  • Petra has a 74.5% interest in Sedibeng, a 74% interest in Star and a 100% interest in Helam
  • 74,232 carats produced in the 2010 financial year
  • Average value achieved of US$185 per carat for the 2010 financial year

Williamson

  • 75% interest held, Government of United Republic of Tanzania holds remaining 25%
  • Purchase effective November 2008
  • Renowned for producing large, high value diamonds and fancy pink diamonds
  • Open pit operation mining the 146 hectare Mwadui kimberlite pipe
  • Major resource of approximately 40 million carats
  • Three year expansion plan will deliver production of 600,000 carats per annum
